The world needs to hire a total of 6.8 million teachers. The International Task Force on Teachers for Education for All was created as a response to the huge need of teachers that is preventing countries from providing good quality, inclusive education for their citizens be they young children or adults.
Sub-Saharan Africa, where the demand for teachers is rising rapidly as the school age population continues to grow, will need to recruit more than 1.8 million primary school teachers between 2010 and 2015 to ensure that every child has access to primary education. Teachers are key to getting children into school and keeping them there.
